The tortoise’s approach is to slow down. This seems counter-intuitive, but it is the secret to winning the race. The tortoise is careful, deliberate, and intentional. The tortoise is focused on just putting one foot in front of the other (the efforts). A fitness expert insists you must adopt this mindset. Stop worrying about the scale. Instead, worry about your controllable actions: Did you get your steps in? Did you drink your water? Did you get enough sleep?

Finally, the tortoise wins by taking small, manageable steps. The hare tries to leap the whole way. In fitness, this looks like trying to cut out all sugar or all carbs at once. It’s too drastic and leads to a crash. The tortoise, meanwhile, makes small, gradual improvements—like adding a vegetable to one meal. These tiny changes are manageable, sustainable, and, over time, they compound into a massive, life-changing victory.
