Putin Expands Russian Military to 1.55 Million Troops Amid Ongoing Tensions

by admin477351

In a significant move, Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered an increase in the country’s military personnel, bringing the number of active-duty servicemen to 1,550,500. This decree adds 15,500 new positions to the Russian armed forces, raising the total authorized strength to 2,441,630 personnel.

This marks the fourth expansion of Russia’s military in 2026, following previous increases ordered in March, June, and July. These combined changes have added tens of thousands of positions to the military establishment, although the latest decree does not specify a reason for the increase. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has suggested that Russia is broadening its recruitment efforts through various channels, but Russian officials have dismissed claims of preparing a new large-scale mobilization.

The expansion comes against the backdrop of Russia’s partial mobilization announcement in September 2022. However, while the decree increases the authorized size of the armed forces, it does not announce any immediate mobilization. This development reflects ongoing tensions and strategic adjustments in the region, though official Russian channels have not detailed the motivations behind this latest military buildup.
