In a strategic move to enhance robotics and physical AI technologies, LG Innotek has teamed up with Japan’s TDK. This collaboration aims to create next-generation vision and tactile sensing modules, leveraging LG Innotek’s expertise in optical and precision engineering alongside TDK’s cutting-edge sensor technology.
The partnership has set its sights on launching an innovative vision sensing module by 2027. This module will incorporate an inertial sensor, allowing for the integration of visual, motion, direction, and sound data. Such advancements are expected to enable robots to interpret and navigate their environments more effectively, minimizing image distortion resulting from motion.
Additionally, the companies are working on a tactile sensing module designed to emulate the sensitivity of human skin. This module intends to allow robots to perceive touch and pressure through various parts of their mechanical bodies, including hands and arms. Like the vision sensing module, this tactile technology is also slated for completion by 2027.
LG Innotek’s collaboration with TDK is expected to significantly bolster its presence in the expanding robotics market. By broadening its array of AI sensing technologies—which already includes cameras, lidar, radar, and tactile sensors—LG Innotek aims to solidify its standing as a leader in the field.
