In a strategic move to foster technological collaboration, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung underscored his nation’s prowess in technology, manufacturing, and innovation during a summit with prominent US venture capital firms in Silicon Valley. President Lee advocated for enhanced partnerships to forge the next generation of global tech enterprises, citing South Korea’s cutting-edge digital infrastructure, a highly skilled workforce, and rapid execution capabilities as key attractions for foreign investment.

Emphasizing South Korea’s commitment to becoming a prime destination for tech investments, Lee promised governmental support through various initiatives. These include visa reforms aimed at attracting foreign experts, bolstering collaboration between businesses and research institutions, and increasing funding allocations for startups. Such measures are designed to create a more conducive environment for innovation and international cooperation.

A significant outcome of the visit was the signing of a memorandum of understanding between South Korea’s National Pension Service and six major US venture capital firms. This agreement aims to expand investment cooperation and strengthen the ties between South Korea’s burgeoning startup ecosystem and leading US investors, reflecting a mutual interest in fostering cross-border technological growth and development.

While in Silicon Valley, President Lee also engaged with overseas Koreans and prominent tech leaders, holding discussions with executives from major companies such as Samsung, SK Group, Hyundai, Nvidia, OpenAI, Broadcom, and Anthropic. These meetings aimed to reinforce South Korea’s strategic partnerships and explore opportunities for future collaborations. Following his engagements in the United States, President Lee continued his international tour, departing for Brazil to further strengthen economic and strategic partnerships on a global scale.
