The Swiss athlete, aged 22, clocked a time of 1:55.88, outpacing Britain’s Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson, who finished in 1:56.26, while Femke Broeders-Bol claimed third place. From the outset, Werro established her lead, accelerating over the final 300 meters to seal the victory. This triumph adds to her impressive season record, having won 14 of her 15 outdoor races, solidifying her status among the world’s elite 800m runners.
Despite facing injuries this season, Hodgkinson expressed pride in her performance, particularly after returning from a hamstring injury that had hindered her speed training. Her resilience showcased her determination, even as she faced the formidable Werro.
In other events, Poland’s Klaudia Kazimierska emerged victorious in the women’s 1500m, with a time of 3:57.55, narrowly edging out Georgia Hunter Bell by 0.15 seconds. Hunter Bell’s second-place finish earned her $75,000, adding to a remarkable season that includes major championship wins.
The women’s 100m race also witnessed a standout performance by world champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, who finished in 10.62 seconds, marking the fastest time globally this year. Olympic champion Julien Alfred secured second place with a time of 10.74, while Sha’Carri Richardson completed the podium in third with 10.76.
