South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has urged a comprehensive investigation into a mine explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that injured three South Korean soldiers. During a Cabinet meeting, President Lee emphasized the need for a swift and transparent probe, in collaboration with the United Nations Command, to establish the facts surrounding the incident.

The explosion occurred on September 21 while soldiers were clearing a route in the western sector of the DMZ in preparation for a joint inspection. Preliminary evidence suggests that North Korean land mines may have been responsible for the blast, according to South Korea’s military. A joint investigation involving South Korean and UN Command personnel is currently underway to confirm the details.

President Lee expressed his concern for the injured soldiers and their families, highlighting the importance of avoiding the spread of unverified claims while the investigation is ongoing. He also stressed the necessity of enhancing South Korea’s defense capabilities, including the development of advanced military technologies.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine the origin of the mines and clarify the circumstances that led to the explosion. South Korean authorities have indicated that appropriate measures will be taken if North Korean responsibility is confirmed.
