Negotiations between the United States and Iran are reportedly advancing positively, with President Donald Trump expressing optimism about the possibility of establishing a temporary agreement concerning the navigation of the Strait of Hormuz. The proposed deal, which could be finalized within the next 48 hours, involves collaboration between the U.S., Iran, and Oman. Its primary objective is to restore commercial shipping activities through this critical maritime passage, thereby minimizing disruptions to global trade.

The plan under consideration would introduce separate routes for maritime traffic, with incoming vessels directed to a northern channel near Iran, while outgoing ships would traverse Omani waters in coordination with Iranian authorities. During the duration of this 60-day temporary arrangement, no transit fees are anticipated. Additionally, both Iran and Oman are expected to jointly undertake efforts to clear mines from the essential shipping lanes.

Despite the growing sense of optimism surrounding these discussions, Iranian officials have advised a cautious approach. They have emphasized that even if an agreement is reached with Oman, the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz cannot be assured. Tehran has signaled that any further progress will hinge on potential changes in U.S. policy.

Speaking to reporters, President Trump mentioned that an announcement about the agreement might be made “tomorrow or the next day.” He characterized the ongoing talks with Iran as “moving along very nicely” but also issued a warning that failing to secure a deal would result in serious consequences.

Should the agreement be finalized, it holds the potential to alleviate tensions in the Gulf region and enhance the flow of global energy and commercial shipments. This development could mark a significant step towards stabilizing a key economic and geopolitical corridor.
