South Korea is playing a pivotal role in bolstering Mongolia’s efforts to preserve its cultural heritage through a strategic higher education partnership. This collaboration focuses on training future experts in conservation, with significant strides being made at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. Recent evaluations by officials from both countries have highlighted the establishment of new conservation and digital documentation facilities at the university.
Since 2020, under the leadership of Kongju National University, this initiative has facilitated the creation of Mongolia’s pioneering Department of Tangible Cultural Heritage Conservation Technology. The program encompasses a comprehensive approach, including the development of specialized curricula, enhancement of laboratory facilities, and the training of faculty members. Moreover, it also involves the production of educational materials in the Mongolian language, ensuring that the learning process is accessible and tailored to local needs.
A key component of this collaboration is the focus on transitioning to local leadership in education. South Korea is actively supporting this shift by training Mongolian faculty members. The ultimate goal is to make the conservation technology program self-sustaining, thereby fostering long-term educational cooperation between the two nations.
